Florence “Penny” Catherine Krenke (Cherney), age 94 of Appleton, WI joined her heavenly Father on April 2, 2026. She was born to the late Charles and Marguerite (Schulze) Cherney on August 20, 1931, in Milwaukee, WI. She graduated from Nathan Hale High School in West Allis and found work utilizing her incredible typing skills right out of high school. Florence met the love of her life, Otto Krenke, and they were married on September 17, 1949, and together, they raised 3 wonderful children to whom she dedicated her life.
Florence was a loving and faithful servant of the Lord and was known for her Christian values that she extended to everyone she knew and loved. She had a deep passion for her Savior and was proud to be a Christian and a member of Eternal Love Lutheran Church. Next to her faith, family was of utmost importance in Florence’s life. She attended every one of her kids’, grandkids’, and great-grandkids’ (“more grandma”) events that she could and was so proud to watch them all grow up. In her retirement, she enjoyed spending her days at the cottage with her husband and hosting weekend events for her family. Any time you went over to her house or cottage, you could expect to play some board games or card games before going home. You would often find Florence occupying her free time crocheting, watching a baseball game, or writing letters. More than anything, Florence loved her family and cherished every moment she could spend with them.
Florence will be deeply missed by her children, Ron (Linda), Gary (Nancy), and Deb (Mark); 6 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren with her first great-great-grandson on the way; her siblings, James (Lenora) and Kenneth (Hermine); her brother-in-law, Vern; as well as many nieces, nephews, other extended relatives, and dear friends.
In heaven, Florence is reunited with her husband, Otto; her great-grandson, Owen; and her siblings, Charles (Tillie), Clarence (Dee), Eleanor (Gilbert), Dorothy (Ray), and Peggy.
A memorial visitation will be held from 2:30 – 3:30 PM on Thursday, April 9, 2026 at Eternal Love Lutheran Church, 1011 Midway Rd, Appleton, WI 54915 with a memorial service to follow at 3:30 PM. Florence will be laid to rest alongside her husband at Riverside Cemetery in Appleton, WI. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the activities fund at Silverstone Memory Care in Appleton.
Florence’s family would like to extend a special thanks to the doctors, nurses, and other supporting staff at Silverstone Memory Care and Moments Hospice, especially Becky, Chelsea, and Gabby for their dedication, care, and compassion shown to Florence during her time of need. Additionally, we especially appreciated the weekly visits from her friends at Eternal Love Lutheran Church, giving her cheerful company through the last 6 months.
She was very loved and will be deeply missed. With great love and appreciation for your life - from your kids, grandkids, and “more grandkids”.
