Evelyn Slater, age 78, passed away peacefully early on Friday morning, October 24, 2014, under the care of St. Paul Hospice Services. Her loving family was at her side. Evelyn was born in Little Chute on July 4, 1936, daughter of the late Fred and Lena (DeBruin) Brasch, and for many years was employed by Zwicker Knitting Mills. Near the end of her working days, she was employed at Plexus. Evelyn was a lifelong member of St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church in Little Chute where she served as a Eucharistic minister. She loved puzzles, sports of all kinds, animals, embroidery, and watching classic movies.
Evelyn is survived by two children: Douglas (Paula) Slater of Little Chute and Barbara (Wayne) Schmitt of Appleton; a daughter-in-law: Jane Slater of Appleton; six grandchildren: Christopher Slater, Katherine (Curtis) Jones, Elizabeth (Troy) DeBruin, Meghan (Joshua) DeWitt, Emily Slater, and Candice Stewart; three great-grandchildren: Jaden, Chase, and Caylah; a sister-in-law: Toots Klyzub; and a lifelong friend: Jodi Van Der Wyst. Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents, a son Tony, a brother Arvin Brasch, and sisters Annabella (Jim) Tabbert, Irene (Carl) Tabbert, Rose (Lyle) Bierman, and Doris Brasch.
The funeral liturgy for Evelyn will be held at 5:00 PM on Monday, October 27, 2014, at ST. JOHN NEPOMUCENE CATHOLIC CHURCH, 325 Pine Street in Little Chute, with Fr. Ronald Belitz officiating. Interment will be in the parish cemetery. Friends and family are invited to gather directly at the church on Monday afternoon from 3:00 PM until the time of the mass.
