Evelyn C. Blackwood

July 1, 1924 — March 12, 2012

Evelyn Caroline Blackwood passed away peacefully at home on March 12, 2012 after a twenty-two year battle with cancer. Evey was born on July 1, 1924, daughter of the late Edmund and Verona (Huven) Engmann. Evey attended Marshfield school until the eighth grade, at which time she began helping on the family farm. In her younger days, Evey traveled to Florida and worked as a nanny for a short period of time. She also worked as a switch board operator for several years before meeting the love of her life. In 1947 Evey married Floyd N. Blackwood and together they started Blackie's Heating Service, which they ran together for thirty-five dedicated years. Evey loved to spend time up at their cottage in Shawano, watching and feeding her animals and birds. She had many very close and dear friends in Shawano that will miss her dearly. Evey never had any children of her own but was like a Mom to many.

She is survived by a brother: Bernard Engmann of Sparks, Nevada and a dear friend and sister-in-law: Grace Blackwood of Marshfield. There are also many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her
parents, her husband Floyd “Blackie” in 2000; two sisters: Mary Jane (Lloyd) Desten and Virginia (Lyle) Stammer; a sister-in-law: Donna Engmann; and a brother-in-law: Ken Blackwood.

A memorial service for Evey will be held on Monday, March 19, 2012 at the Wichmann Funeral Home in Appleton, with Deacon Don Gigure of Sacred Heart Catholic Church officiating. Inurnment will be at
Highland Memorial Park. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday afternoon from 2:00 PM until the time of the service at 4:00 PM.

The family would like to extend a huge thank you to Dr. Guenther and his entire staff at Fox Valley Hematology and Oncology for their twenty-two years of care and support, the volunteer staff at AMC for all their friendship and kindness over the years, ThedaCare At Home Hospice who helped make her final days at home more manageable, and her faithful neighbors Dick & Linda, for all the years of valued
friendship! Evey will be missed by all who knew her.
