Eugene Stuyvenberg

Eugene F. Stuyvenberg, age 92 of Kimberly, passed away April 11, 2024.  Gene was born May 11, 1931 in Appleton, son of the late Henry and Elizabeth (Plesser) Stuyvenberg.  He was a graduate of Kimberly High School and then joined the Army, serving in Germany for two years (1953 to 1954) during the Korean War.  He then became employed at Kimberly Clark as a pipefitter for thirty years, retiring in 1989. In 1955 he married Jeanne Whitefoot, and together they raised a family of five.  Two littles (Joseph and Gail) passed shortly after birth.  Jeanne passed in 1972 at the age of 37.  In 1993, he married Carol Haase; she passed in 2011.

Gene was proud to be on an Honor Flight to Washington with his son Greg in 2014.  He also loved spending time at his cottage on Lake Poygan where he captained his pontoon boat, fished for walleyes,  sat near the firepit, and ate more than his share of bluegills at Jorgie’s in Borth.

In his earlier years, he was an avid bowler, hunted pheasants in South Dakota, made treks to Packer and Brewer games, took trips in the motor home, and looked forward to the monthly card nights with the family.

Gene is survived by five children: Gary (Nubia) Stuyvenberg of Colombia, Debbie (Tom) Pieters of Kaukauna, Diane (Joe) Deering of Porterfield, and Greg (Kris) Stuyvenberg of Little Chute, and Cheryl DuChateau of North Carolina. There are six grandchildren: Ryan (Katie) Pieters, Aubrey Pieters, Travis (Kim) Jansen, Cody (Taylor) Deering, Ian (Lauren) Stuyvenberg, and Quintin (special friend Abby) Stuyvenberg; and great-granddaughters: Ella and Alexa Pieters, and Kaelyn Deering.  There is a sister surviving: Mary (Larry) Vander Pas of Kimberly; and in-laws: Nancy Stuyvenberg, Karen Stuyvenberg, and Pat Stuyvenberg.

He was preceded in death by his parents, both of his wives, siblings Ken (Lenore), Don (Dorothy, Ginger), Bob (June), Paul, Jerry, Richard, Rita (Carl) Rehfeldt, and Betty (Ken, Bob, Jim); and a son-in-law Chuck DuChateau.
Carol’s family includes seven children: Sheryl (Greg) Verstegen, Rick (Brenda) Haase, Sarah (Pete) Linzmeier, Rob Haase, Jamie (Betsy) Haase, Chris (Becky) Haase, and Matt (Sarah) Haase and their extended families.

The funeral liturgy for Gene will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, April 18, 2024, at Holy Spirit Parish, located at 600 E. Kimberly Avenue in Kimberly.  Fr. Carl Schmitt will officiate and burial will follow in the parish cemetery.  Family and friends are invited to visit at the church on Thursday morning from 9:00 AM until the time of the service at the church.

The family would like to offer heartfelt thanks for the special angels that cared for Gene.  They include Christina (who lovingly referred to Gene as “Bud”) and Nikki from Moments Hospice and everyone at Aspire Senior Living – especially the staff on the second floor.

Gene was loved by all who knew him. He had a passion for life that was irresistible and wanted all who crossed paths with him to be happy. He lived every day to its fullest. The family is reasonably sure that dad's dying wish would have been for Greg to get him a beer.
