Emma Wenzel, formerly of Menasha, was called to her Savior's side on Monday, February 9, 2009 at a Baraboo hospital. Emma was born August 6, 1922 in Hadar, Nebraska, daughter of the late Rev. George and Pauline (Wietzke) Tiefel. She attended Immanuel Ev. Lutheran School in Hadar and graduated from the Stambaugh, Michigan High School in 1940. She then entered Dr. Martin Luther College in New Ulm, Minnesota, and in 1942 entered the ministry of teaching the truths of God's word. She instructed His precious little lambs at St. John Ev. Emma was currently residing in Baraboo, Wisconsin, and lived with her daughter, Amy. She was a member of St. John Ev. Lutheran Church there.
Emma was a loving wife and mother who was committed to the needs of her family, her grandchildren, and her great-grandchildren. She enjoyed flowers, reading, cooking, looking at photo albums, and talking to friends and family.
Emma is survived by her three loving children: Rev. Glenn (Nancy) Wenzel of Riverside, California and their children: Nevin Wenzel of San Bernardino, California; Nina Acosta of Riverside California; Robert (Melodie) Wenzel of New Ulm, Minnesota; Sarah (Mike) Homan of Bloomington, Minnesota; Seth Wenzel of San Clemente, California; Jesse (Janet) Wenzel of Wildomar, California; and Zachary Wenzel of Riverside, California and his special friend Jennafer Powell;

She was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband Raymond in 1981, a sister Gertrude (Harold) Gother, brothers Rev. Victor (Arlene) Tiefel, Rev Arnold (Grete) Tiefel, and Rev. Fred (Louise) Tiefel; and by several brothers and sisters-in-law: Helen Wenzel, Louis Lindquist, Al Wenzel, Alma (Oscar) Michelson, Loretta (Coolie) Kieckafer, Grete Tiefel, and Vi (Clarence) Palmer; and a special Godchild and great-nephew Dean DeWildt.
The Christian Funeral for Emma will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, February 16, 2009 at MOUNT OLIVE EV. LUTHERAN CHURCH, 930 E. Florida Avenue in Appleton with Rev. Donald Ninmer officiating. Interment will be in Highland Memorial Park. Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday from 2:00 PM until 5:00 PM and again at the church on Monday morning from 10:00 AM until the hour of the services at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial funds are being established for Bethel Ev. Lutheran Church in Menasha and Martin Luther College in New Ulm, Minnesota.
During her entire life, Emma found great comfort and strength in the promises of her loving Savior. She found great joy in sharing this faith with her own children and with the many lambs that God entrusted to her care during her forty-one years as a teacher.
“In my Father's house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go to prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.”
