Edward J. Lodes, Sherwood, age 68, passed away at home after a courageous battle with cancer on Friday, January 15, 2010. He was born in Chilton on January 17, 1941 the son of the late Norbert and Aurelia (Steiner) Lodes. In 1963 he married Sandra Priebe, who preceded Ed in death in 1992. On September 6, 1997 he married Pat Kempf. After Ed graduated from business college, he worked his way up from an entry level position to be the purchasing director at Pacon Corporation. He worked there for 40 years and retired in 2000. He loved to garden, especially fruit trees and berries. Ed loved to golf, hunt, fish and spend time at his cabin in Crandon. Many of these activities were done with his grandchildren, whom he cherished. Ed will be remembered for his mischievous adventures on his golf cart.
Ed is survived by his wife, Pat; children: Penny Lodes of Fort Lauderdale, FL; Pam (Kraig) Hoene of Lebonon, OR; Carrie Schulke and significant other, Tom Taggart, of Gilbert, AZ; Cindy (Joe) Gemza of Stevens Point, and Dean Lodes and significant other, Julie Vosters, of Appleton; grandchildren: Libbie and Jackson Hoene; Joey, Isabelle and Abigail Gemza; and Delaney LaVelle; sisters, Ruth Ann (Jerry) Schmitz, Mary (Mitz) Hirano and Kathy Lodes and significant other Tom Kleczka sister-in-law: Pat Lodes. He was preceded in death by his brother, Jerry Lodes.
The funeral liturgy will be at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 19, 2010 at ST. MARY CATHOLIC CHURCH, 312 S. State St., Appleton, with Fr. Michael O'Rourke officiating. Friends will be received at the funeral home on Monday from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and at the church on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the mass. Burial will be at Appleton Highland Memorial Park.
The family extends a special thank you to the U.W.-Madison Hospital and Clinics, Dr. Nancy Sweitzer, Dr. Maryl Johnson, Nurse Practitioner Bethany Westerfeld, and Theda Care at Home Hospice for their wonderful care.
A memorial fund in Ed's name is being established.
