Earl Hoppe, age 87, went to be with the Lord peacefully in his sleep on Wednesday, October 27, 2010 at the Appleton Healthcare Center. A veteran of World War II, Earl was born in Appleton on August 22, 1923 to the late William and Josephine (Schey) Hoppe. He will be greatly missed by his wife of sixty-seven years: Jennie Marie (nee Jury) Hoppe of Appleton; three children: Sally (David) Flegner of Watertown, Jody (Robb) Campbell of Rincon, Georgia, and Jack (Ginger) Hoppe of Seymour. There are also nine grandchildren: Jason (Emmy) Flegner, Catherine (Josh) Fye, Joseph (Susan) Flegner, Robert (Marisol) Campbell, Andrew Campbell, John Campbell, Jacquelyn Campbell, Jessica Hoppe, and Nicki Hoppe; nine great-grandchildren; and a sister: Ruth Eggert of Appleton.
Earl began his working career at Kurz Electric in Appleton, and later was an employee of the Kimberly Clark paper mill in Kimberly. He retired March 31, 1995, after more than forty-eight years of service at the mill. Earl was a skilled refrigeration mechanic, taught air conditioning at FVTC, and was a member of the United Methodist Church. More than anything, Earl loved spending time with his wife and family in the outdoors fishing, hunting, boating, and sharing time at the family cottages. He truly enjoyed nature, and loved to share the simple joys of life with his family and friends.
The funeral service for Earl will be held at 12:00 Noon on Tuesday, November 2, 2010 at the funeral home chapel, 537 N. Superior Street in Appleton with Rev. Mark Klaisner of St. James United Methodist Church officiating. Interment with full military honors will follow at Riverside Cemetery. The family will receive relatives and friends at the funeral home on Tuesday from 10:00 AM until the time of the service.
The family is grateful to the kind and caring staff at the Appleton Healthcare Center, as well as to all of the caregivers at Theda Care At Home Hospice.
