Dorothy Marie Sullivan, age 93, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 22, 2023 at the Courtyard Living Facility in Oshkosh. Dorothy was born in Appleton, WI on September 29, 1929 to the late Mary and Frank Groh and was the youngest of nine siblings. She grew up in Appleton, was a graduate of Appleton West High School and later from Prospect Hall in Milwaukee. On October 20, 1951 Dorothy married Robert Sullivan in Appleton. A few years later they moved to Menasha, built their home, and began another chapter of life. She worked for Marathon Paper, Ascension Medical Group, and Fox Valley Technical College until her retirement.
Dorothy was proud of her family; she is survived by her two children: Christine Sullivan, Neenah; John (Chris) Sullivan, Ashwaubenon; her grandchildren; Craig (Kim) Sullivan, Green Bay; Kelli (Mike) Backaus, Brookfield; her great-grandchildren, Lilah, Brooks, and Beau Backaus, Charlotte Sullivan; as well as many nieces, nephews, other extended relatives, and dear friends.
Dorothy was very supportive of her immediate and extended family. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert; her parents, Frank and Mary; her brothers; Tony (Joan) Groh, Rome (Agnes) Groh, Dr. James (Ginny) Groh; and her sisters, Helen (Karl) Peerenboom and Monica (Joe) Koren. Three young brothers and three nephews also predeceased her.
A memorial mass will be held at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 320 Nicolet Blvd., Menasha at 11 a.m. with Father Judah Pigon officiating. Visitation will be at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of service.
The family would like to give a special thank you to Courtyard at Oshkosh and AseraCare Hospice. Also thank you to dear family, friends, and neighbors for your love and support to Dorothy throughout the years.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established.
