Donald W. Thiede

Donald “Donny” Wayne Thiede, age 85 of Menasha, WI joined his heavenly kingdom on May 10, 2026. He was born to Merlin and Eleanor (Wagner) Thiede on June 3, 1940 in Menasha, WI.

After graduating from St. Mary High School, he enlisted in the Navy, earning his position as a Yeoman Petty Officer, 3rd Class. He had many fond memories of his travels in the Navy during his service from 1960-1966.

After Donny’s time in the military, he returned to working at the Gilbert Paper mill for 17 years, but eventually found his true passion in working for St. Mary Parish and School. Donny was well-known for decorating St. Mary’s Elementary School. He loved to surprise the students with character cutouts and colorful garland, bringing smiles to their faces however he could. He was also an integral part of making the church look beautiful. He finally retired after over 30 years of working for the church and school.

Donald married the love of his life, Sharon Siebers on September 3, 1966, spending over 60 years together and raising 3 children together.

Donny was an artist and craftsmen, well known for his paintings and creativity with woodworking. He also enjoyed spending much of his time tending to his garden. If ever you found him just relaxing, though, you could be sure that one of his best friends and beloved dogs, Henry or Lilly, would be on his lap. More than anything, though, Donny loved his family and truly cherished every moment he could spend with his kids, grandkids, and his great-grandson. He was so proud of everyone he helped to raise.

Donny will be deeply missed by his wife, Sharon; his children, Dawn (Troy) Wittmann, Chad (Lisa) Thiede, and Ryan (Sally) Thiede; his grandchildren, Riley (Megan) Wittmann, Parker (Bailey) Wittmann, Adam (Liz) Thiede, Lexi (Braden) Hutter, Melanie (fiancé, Jack) Thiede, and Vanessa (special friend, Aaron) Thiede; his great-grandson, Alexander Donald Thiede (with one more great-grandchild due in October); his siblings, Dolores (Jim) McGowan, Brenda Reinke, and Marilyn (Ken Bergner; his brothers-in-law, Giz Geerts, James (Judy) Siebers, and Richard (Ruth) Siebers; as well as many nieces, nephews, other extended relatives, church family, and dear friends.

A memorial visitation will be held from 9-11 AM on Friday, May 22, 2026 at St. Mary Catholic Church, 528 2nd St, Menasha, WI 54952 with a mass to follow at 11 AM. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established in Donald’s name.

Donny’s family would like to extend a special thanks to the hospice care angels, Sarah, Stephanie, and Sandy for helping them so much during this difficult time. They would also like to thank Dr. Joseph and Holly for their wonderful care through the years.

Even though we know you’ll be with us when we’re sitting on the porch, we’ll still miss your company, Donny. You were one in a million – we love you so much.
