Donald N. Green

Donald Green, age 92, passed away at Manor Care on Sunday morning, April 12, 2009. Don was born in Appleton on May 3, 1916, son of the late Nicholas and Blanche (Brady) Green. On August 3, 1940 he married Blanche Courtios; she preceded him in death on November 12, 2002. Don was employed as an electrician, a trade he learned while in the Navy, at Kimberly Clark, as well as Langstadt's Electric, and retired from InterLake (Consolidated) Papers.

In 1943, Don entered the United States Navy, and was stationed on Saipan as a member of the 117th Naval Construction Battalion (Sea Bees). There, Don worked on building runways for the American bombers to land before refueling and continuing their missions to Japan. Don was a member of the Sea Bee Veterans of America, Island X14. He also enjoyed golf, right up until the age of 90. The music of the big bands of the 1930's and 1940's were also favorites, and he enjoyed spending time with his family and his dog Roxy.

Survivors include two children: Thomas (Susan) Green of Appleton and Diane (Norman) Miller of Neenah; five grandchildren: David (Danielle) Green, Shane (Josette) Green, Patrick Miller and his fiancee Angie, Adam Miller, and Brenda (Jeff) Krull; four great-grandchildren: Jasmin, Dominique, Samantha, and Judge; several nieces and nephews, and two dear friends: Randy and Becky Vande Voort. Don was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Blanche in 2002, a son James Green, a grandson Robert Green, brothers Marvin (Lucille) Green and Robert (Leone) Green, a sister Lucille (Bill) Platt, and a sister-in-law Myra (John) Van Dyke.

The funeral services for Donald will be held at 7:00 PM on Wednesday, April 15, 2009 at the Wichmann Funeral Home, with Rev. Tim Albrecht officiating. Inurnment will be at Highland Memorial Park. Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 4:00 PM until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund is being established for the Sea Bee Veterans of America Educational Scholarship.

All who knew Donny will always remember his quick wit, his one-liners, and his sense of humor. He will be dearly missed.

The family would like to offer their sincere thanks to Dr. Ebben, Dr. Ballard, the entire staff of Manor Care, and to ThedaCare at Home. We were treated so well by each and everyone of you, and we know that Dad was in such very good hands. Your special touch will never be forgotten.
