Donald “Don” Aho, age 76, passed away peacefully on August 17, 2026. He was born on September 3, 1949, to Edwin and Katherine (Bessonen) Aho in Laurium, Michigan.
Don graduated from Wakefield High School in 1967 and went on to attend Northland College, where he graduated in 1971, where he played football and earned his business degree. He later went on to earn a MBA degree. His athletic ability and love of football led to opportunities to try out for the Green Bay Packers, Chicago Bears, and Minnesota Vikings. Unfortunately, those opportunities were cut short after a skiing accident in which he broke his leg in seven places.
While sports were an important part of Don’s life, hockey became one of his greatest passions. He began coaching hockey when his boys were young and continued coaching after they had left home. dedicated countless hours to helping young players develop not only as athletes, but also as individuals. His commitment to hockey eventually led him to serve as a summer camp director at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, where he worked with up-and-coming hockey players and helped nurture the next generation of athletes.
Don will be remembered for his love of sports, his dedication to coaching, and the many lives he touched through his work with young athletes. His passion, determination, and commitment to those around him will be deeply missed.
Don is survived by his children, Loren Aho (Bethany Campbell) of Fairfax, VA, Nathan Aho (Robin) of Marquette, MN, and Bethany Heinz of Greenville, WI; his grandchildren, Alexis, Kayla, Emma, Easton, Caleb, Caitlin, and Mark; as well as his sister, Evie (Gene) Ament of Green Bay and his brother, Bill (Karen) Aho of Missouri.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Edwin Aho and Katherine (Bessonen) Aho; his brother, Gary Aho; his wife, Christina Aho; and granddaughter, Ashley Aho.
In respect to Don's wishes, no funeral services will be held.
Don leaves behind a legacy through his family, his athletes, and the many people who had the privilege of knowing and learning from him. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered. The family wishes to thank Dimensions Living in Appleton for all the care he received during his time spent with them.
