Dete G. Nagan

Dete G. Nagan passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday December 22, in Naples, Florida, her winter home. Her loving husband, Robert F. Nagan MD and brother Peter Notaras, were at her side. She resided in Indianapolis, Indiana. Dete was born in Appleton, Wisconsin. She attended Lawrence College and the University of Wisconsin with a BA degree in Latin and Science education. She taught High School for two years and worked for Indiana Bell in Public Realtions for three years. She was president of Chi Omega sorority. She was active in many college and community activities such as a member of the museum guild and Eiteljorg Museum. She was a member of the Players Club, Hunt Club, Standsfield Circle, Women’s Symphony Group and President of the Day Nursery from 1978 to 1979. She enjoyed tennis and golf as a member of Meridian Hills Country Club in Indianapolis, Indiana. She was also a member of Royal Poinciannna Country Club in Naples, Florida. She loved living in her gulfside condominium and walking the beach during the winter season. Her many friends will remember how she always talked well about everyone and gave of herself to her friends. She never “knew a stranger”. She greeted everyone with a smile and enjoyed entertaining. She enjoyed life to the fullest. Her husband of 54 years is devastated by her loss but knows that Dete is welcomed into Heaven – where she will continue to pray for all of her acquaintances and friends. She was especially dedicated to her husband and selflessly supported his devotion to caring for surgical patients. She was a founding member of the Brown foundation dedicated to service for the poor. She was a member of St. Luke’s Catholic Church and also attended mass at St. Vincent Hospital chapel. She was a member of the St. Vincent Seton Society and contributed to the St. Vincent Hospital Foundation and many other community activities.

She is survived by her husband Robert and two brothers, Peter and George Notaras and sister Mary Carlson. She had another sister Santhe and a brother John who passed away several years ago. She has five nieces, Barbara Cameron, Carolyn Pencek, Stacey Murphy, Kelly and Maria Notaras and three nephews Paul, James and George Notaras.

Funeral services will be held on December 28, 2004 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Kaukauna, Wisconsin at 11:00 am preceded by visitation in the church starting at 9:00 am. The burial will be the following morning in the family plot at Riverside cemetery in Appleton, Wisconsin. Memorial services will be held at St. Luke’s Catholic Church in Indianapolis, Indiana at a date to be decided. Donations in her name may be made to St. Vincent Hospital Foundation, Indianapolis directed to services for the needy.
