Delores M. Smarzinski

Delores Smarzinski, age 83, passed away peacefully at Cherry Meadows Hospice in Appleton on Thursday morning, October 6, 2011. Her family was at her side. Blondie was born in Appleton on September 1, 1928, daughter of the late Harold and Rose (Jansen) Gullixon. On June 28, 1947, she married Richard Smarzinski at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Appleton; he preceded her in death in 2001. Blondie loved camping at Evergreen Campground at Kusel Lake, playing cards, singing campfire songs with friends and family, crochet, cheering on the Packers, and trips to the casino.

Survivors include three children: David (Pat) Smarzinski of Menasha; Judi (Clifton) Gibbs of High Point, North Carolina; and Jim (Barb) Smarzinski of Darboy; there are five grandchildren: Josh Smarzinski and his special friend Kristal; Summer (Jason) Marx and their daughter Aurora; Siobhan (Jason) Crum; Meghan (Scott) Pratt and their daughter Laina; and Daniel Gibbs; two sisters-in-law: Regina Jakowski of Idaho and Florence Willis of Menasha. Blondie was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a sister: Carol (Bob) Maahs; a brother: Elmer (Marcella) Gullixon; as well as several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.

The funeral liturgy for Delores will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, October 10, 2011 at SACRED HEART CATHOLIC CHURCH, 222 E. Fremont Street in Appleton. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday afternoon from 1:00 PM until 4:00 PM and again at the church on Monday morning form 10:00 AM until the time of the service.

The family would like to thank everyone at St. Elizabeth and Cherry Meadows for their tender and respectful care. We will never forget your kindness.
