Delores M. Hennessey

June 8, 1930 — November 26, 2018

Delores Hennessey, age 88 of Kimberly, passed away rather unexpectedly on Monday, November 26, 2018. Delores was born in Kimberly on June 8, 1930, daughter of the late Louis and Mary (Ducat) Verhagen. In April of 1950, she married Kenneth Hennessey; he preceded her in death in 2006.

She treasured time with her family, especially the little ones, and looked forward to having her house full of people. She preferred lunch with family over a greeting card for a special occasion. Summer was her favorite season, and Delores could often be found sitting on the swing in her back yard, watching the monarch butterflies and the birds. When the seasons changed, she raked leaves and shoveled snow right along with the rest of her family. Many will remember Delores for her love of word puzzles, crochet, and car rides – anytime, anyplace, and anywhere.

Delores is survived by nine loving children: Sharon (Randy) Gascoigne of Madison, Judy (John) Schmaltz of Little Chute, Mary (Jeff) Vanden Boogaard of Darboy, Bob Hennessey of Appleton, Janet (Guy) Van Dyn Hoven of Kaukauna, Kathy Van Toll of Kimberly and her special friend Russ, Don Hennessey of Menasha and his special friend Tara, Mark (Lisa) Hennessey of Little Chute, and Vicki Hennessey of Appleton and her special friend Todd. Her grandchildren are Sandra Thiele, Jesse (Carrie) Derks, Jay Derks, Jessica (Ruben) Garza, Cory (Sheena) Verkuylen, Shane (Cynthia) Verkuylen, Katie (Joshua) Marnocha, Scott (Aubree) Van Dyn Hoven, Judy (Glen) Beach, Jerry (Jess) Van Toll, Michael Van Toll, John (Ann) Van Toll, Hannah Koehler, Katelyn Hennessey, Jacob Hennessey, Kyle Hennessey, Nicole Hennessey, Travis Hennessey, and Ethan Hennessey.

She is survived by her loving great-grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews, three sisters-in-law: Rose Verhagen, Donna Verhagen, and Shirley Hennessey; and a brother-in-law: Clayton Hennessey.

Delores was preceded in death by her parents, husband Kenneth, a son-in-law Tom Van Toll, a grandson John Leal, her siblings: Averd (Gladys) Verhagen, Harland (Ann) Verhagen, PFC Clayton Verhagen, Marvin Verhagen, Blanche (Richard) Verhagen, Eugene Verhagen, and Yvonne (Russ) Hassell; her in-laws were Louis and Kathryn Hennessey, and their deceased children were Blanche Hennessey, and Louis (JoAnn) Hennessey, and Gladys (Steve) Kempen.

The funeral liturgy for Delores will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday, November 30, 2018 at Holy Spirit Parish, 600 E. Kimberly Avenue in Kimberly, with Fr. Bob Kollath officiating. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery. Family and friends are invited to gather at the church on Friday morning from 10:00 AM until the hour of the mass.

The family would like to thank the Good Samaritans to came to Delores' aid on Sunday afternoon, the paramedics that assisted her on the way to the hospital, and the medical staff in the Emergency Room and Intensive Care Unit at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Appleton. We were amazed at your response to our emergency and will never forget your love, care, and compassion.
