“Del”
Delmar H. “Del” Newton, age 100, passed away at Rennes Health Center, Appleton, on Saturday, August 1, 2009. Del was born on July 19, 1909, in Stockbridge, to the late Edwin and Bertha (Levknecht) Newton. He married Gerana Gehl on June 23, 1934; she preceded him in death on January 13, 2000. Del was a member of Appleton Alliance Church; a member of the Gideons International; active in the Boy Scouts of America for many years, receiving the Silver Beaver Award from the Nicolet Council of Green Bay; a member of the Noon Lions Club, with membership in Lions since 1944. He worked in the dairy industry all of his adult life, retiring from Morning Glory Dairy Company (Consolidated Badger) in 1974. In Sturgeon Bay, Del served for 22 years on the board of directors of the Bank of Sturgeon Bay; was president and general manager of Pleck's Quality Check and Pepsi-Cola Bottling Company; was a member of the Sturgeon Bay Chamber of Commerce and Lions Club; and was an elder of the Moravian Church. Survivors include his daughter, Pauline “Polly” Newton, Eden Prairie, Minnesota; his son, Harold Newton (special friend Mischelle), Mosinee; his brother, Donald (Arlene) Newton, Pensacola, Florida; his grandchildren, Jeff Newton, Mike (Lori) Newton, Steve (Amy) Newton, Tim (Gina) Newton, Melissa (Dan) Kishish and Randall Ripp. He is further survived by 11 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Harold and Kenneth, and his sisters, Marian and Carol. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 6, 2009, at APPLETON ALLIANCE CHURCH, 2693 W. Grand Chute Blvd, Appleton, with Rev. Dick Schaefer officiating. Friends may call directly at the church on Thursday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services. Interment will be in Highland Memorial Park. The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to the staff at Rennes Health Care Center and Dr. Jack Anderson for their loving care. A memorial has been established in his name to benefit Gideons, International and Appleton Alliance Church.
