David W. Walter

May 20, 1947 — May 21, 2025

Appleton

David W. Walter passed away on May 21, 2025, one day after his 78th birthday. Dave was born on May 20, 1947, in Syracuse, New York and moved to Wisconsin in the 1970s.

Dave was a career salesman in the concrete industry selling batch plants, working first for Mixer Systems, Inc., then as a private contractor. In 1990, Dave married Deb Tivnan and together they lived on Lake Keesus in Merton, Wisconsin. Deb passed away in 1997. In 1998, Dave married Mary Schaut Roska and the couple moved to Sturgeon Bay where they shared their dream home on the water. Dave welcomed Mary’s two sons and daughter as his own children, and their children became his true bonus grandchildren.

Flying was Dave’s passion. As a pilot and aviation enthusiast he owned multiple planes during his lifetime. He also enjoyed boating, gardening, woodworking and W.C. Fields movies. He had a huge personality and loved a good joke. His dry sense of humor always kept people guessing.

He is survived by stepsons Jeff Roska, Andy Roska (Maggie Valentino) and stepdaughter Casey (Jason) Britten. He is further survived by grandchildren Max Britten, Kate Britten and Aidyn Roska, brother Jack Walter (Tracy Collins), nephews Jeffrey (Kate) Walter and Derek (Lauren) Walter, niece Betsy (Mark) Timm (“uncle by choice”), and their children Michael, Catherine and Nicole, godson Nicholas (Monica) Ray, and many more friends and family members.

Preceded in death by wife Deborah Tivnan Walter and wife Mary Schaut Walter, brother Rick Walter and parents Wallace Walter and Dorothy Coleman Walter.

Dave’s family plans to celebrate his life in the coming months. Until then, tell a good joke, share a story about Dave and watch a W.C. Fields movie in his honor. Details will be updated.
