David Allen Thiede, age 70, passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, November 19, 2017. He was born on November 17, 1947 in Neenah, WI to the late Merlin and Eleanor (Wagner) Thiede. David graduated from St. Mary High School in 1967 and enlisted in the US Army in 1969. He was deployed to Vietnam where he proudly served his country until his honorable discharge in 1970. David worked for Miller Electric for 33 years until his retirement. In retirement, David served as the chaplain for the VFW Post 2126. During his time as chaplain, David honored countless veterans with his prayers. David spent time volunteering for many St. Mary Menasha Catholic Parish events. He also affected many lives with his philanthropy and the time he spent with children and foreign exchange students. David was a giving person and always enjoyed bringing gifts and joy to others.
He will be dearly missed by the joy of his life, Maxwell.
David is survived by his siblings: Brenda Reinke, Donny (Sharon) Thiede, Marilyn (Ken) Bergner, Dolores (James) McGowan; family friends, Larry and Kate Sicard and their children. he is further survived my many nieces, nephews and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Beverly Thiede Smith.
The memorial service for David will be held at 4:00 PM on Tuesday, November 28, 2017 at WICHMANN-LAEMMRICH FUNERAL HOME (312 Milwaukee St., Menasha) and followed by military rites. Visitation will be held from 2:00 PM until the time of service. I lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the U.S. Oil Fund for Basic Needs at the Community Foundation.
The family wishes to thank Heather, David’s nurse, for the care and kindness. Also, thank you to David’s entire medical team for the care and assistance over the past years.
