Darleen B. Verhagen, age 84, passed away on September 22, 2025. She was born in the Town of Ellington on May 24, 1941, to the late Cecil and Mabel (Gosz) Tibbetts. Darleen graduated from Shiocton High School. In 1962, Darleen married James Verhagen they lived in Grand Chute for most of their married life. Darleen worked outside the home for the Hortonville School District as the coordinator of their food service program for more than 30 years.
Darleen was passionate about growing flowers and keeping her home and outside space beautiful. She was known for moving various plants and shrubs around the yard to ensure proper growth. In addition to growing plants and shrubs, Darleen was wonderful at “growing” her connections with friends and family. She enjoyed “pit stops” at various snack and beverage locations-and was always up for an Uncle Mike’s stop or a visit to the local watering hole for a quick drink.
Darleen is survived by two daughters, Tina (Michael) Holewinski, Jill (Bryan) Diana; three grandchildren, Taylor (Chase) Lewis, Sydney (Matthew) Weigel and Michaela (Hayden Johnson) Holewinski; great granddaughter Kodi James. In addition, she is survived by her “partner in crime” Carol Wickesberg; many nieces, nephews, good friends and other relatives.
Darleen was preceded in death by her husband of 44 years James; her parents; as well as her sisters: Joyce and Bonnie and other relatives and friends.
A funeral service will take place on Thursday October 2, 2025, at 11:00 am at St Peter Lutheran Church, N2740 N French Road, Appleton. Friends and family may gather at the church from 10:00 am until the service begins. Darleen will be reunited with her husband James at Highland Memorial Park, Appleton.
Darleen’s family would like to thank the Oncology and Radiology Teams at ThedaCare including but not limited to: Dr Schmidt, Julia Stoffel, and Dr Munson. To the staff at Ballard Glenn and Aspire Senior Living (too many to name, but you know who you are): Our Mom truly loved all of you.
