Cordell M. Ditter

April 3, 1907 — February 25, 2003

Passed away Tuesday, February 25, 2003 at Rennes Health Center following a brief illness. Cordell was born in Appleton on April 3, 1907, daughter of the late Nic and Ellen (Borchardt) Berens. Cordell attended Holy Cross School in Kaukauna and later was employed at Blanche Gerend’s millinery shop. She enjoyed her work creating women’s hats, which were very popular in those days.

On April 22, 1929, she married Walter M. Ditter at St. Therese Catholic Church in Appleton. Following her marriage, mom devoted herself to raising and caring for her family. She truly enjoyed baking, cooking, and doting on her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. There was never a time when mom didn’t respond generously to any request for help, giving unselfishly from her limited resources to help family and friends in need.

Cordell is survived by two children: Thomas “Tim” (Mary) Ditter of Kaukauna and Judy (Dr. David) Kent of Appleton; seven grandchildren: Mark M. (Jennifer) Ditter of Hales Corners, Charles P. (Barbara) Ditter of Waukesha, Rebecca (James Abendroth) Kent of Appleton, Christine (Larry) Corsi of Madison, Aimee’ (Cary Grunder) Kent of Madison, and David Andrew Kent of California; seven great-grandchildren: Tim and Jennifer Ditter, Andrew and Isabelle Abendroth, Nicholas and Emma Corsi, and Sophie Grunder.

Cordell was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her sister and brother-in-law Josephine and Wayne Carr, a granddaughter Julie Kent, and a special friend Ted Hietpas.

Private memorial services will be held for immediate family. A long life precludes a lack of contemporaries to bid one farewell, but ensures a host to welcome one home to eternal life.

Cordell’s love of reading has prompted us to establish a memorial in her name at the Kaukauna Public Library.

The family would like to extend their gratitude to the entire staff at Rennes Health Center in Appleton for the wonderful, loving care Cordell received, especially this past month. You are all so very special; our sincere thanks to each one of you.
