Claude Seif, age 95, of Appleton, passed away on Monday, April 20, 2015 at Carolina Manor. He was born on January 8, 1920 in Dale, Wisconsin, to the late Joseph and Elizabeth (Habel) Seif. Claude was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and VFW Post 2778 of Appleton. He served his country during WWII in the U.S. Army.
When Claude came home from the South Pacific after four years in the Army he thought working in a paper mill would be too dull for him. So he went to Cleveland, Ohio and became a Merchant Seaman on an ore boat. He worked as a Wheelsman on the Great Lakes for 30 years hauling iron ore, coal, and grain….And now my last lament.
My sailing days are over I've made my last dock. I am heading for the blue horizon where the steamboats meet the sky. I'm gonna sail..sail..sail.. out where it all begun…now an old seamans work is done.
