Clara Christina Spence

Clara Spence, age 96, formerly of Appleton, Wisconsin, passed away peacefully surrounded by her three children at CopperStone Assisted Living Facility in Neenah on Sunday, December 3, 2023. Clara was born August 24, 1927 in Sherwood, Wisconsin. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and homemaker with many talents and hobbies which included golfing, bowling, playing cards, sewing, and knitting. Clara enjoyed volunteering for the Women’s Auxiliary at Ascension St. Elizabeth Hospital for over 20 years. Through her various activities she formed many long standing treasured friendships.

Clara was preceded in death by her parents, Rudolph and Anna Mary (Horn) Eckes, and her husband, Loren Spence.

She is survived by her two daughters Rhonda Spence; Barb Hitt (husband, Ray); her son Jeffrey Spence (wife, Gail Novitske); her two grandchildren Jacob Spence (wife, Eileen), Emily Spence (significant other, Jordan Phillips) and one step-granddaughter Jessica Novitske (significant other, Mitch Krueger, great grandchildren Logan and Cole).

A Celebration of Life will be held from 10:00 a.m. until an informal sharing of memories at 11:00 a.m., on Sunday, December 10, 2023, at the Wichmann Funeral Home, 537 N. Superior St., Appleton. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund will be established.
