Charles Albertz, age 91, passed away early on Saturday, October 2, 2010 at a local care center. Charles was born in Oconto on September 21, 1919, son of the late Edgar and Mae (Scheffen) Albertz. In 1945, he entered into service with the United States Army and was discharged in 1948. That same year, on May 1, he married the former Beatrice Keip; Bea preceded Mick in death in 2006. Mick was an experienced cheesemaker, having worked in Columbus, Upper Michigan, and Kaukauna. After his cheesemaking days were over, he worked for a time at Thilmany Pulp and Paper, until his retirement. Mick enjoyed gardening, fishing, traveling North America, wintering in Arizona, fishing, and vacationing at Cloverleaf Lakes. He was a member ofKaukauna’s American Legion Post #41.
Mick is survived by two sons: Daniel (Debra)· Albertz of Appleton and Gerald Albertz of Kaukauna; three grandchildren: Brian Albertz, Jason (Sara) Albertz, and Crystal (Colin) Nemeth; two sisters: Vallee Mae Hansel of Yorkville, Illinois and Beverly Jean (Elmer) Kopp of Edina, Minnesota. On Bea’s side of the family, there is her brother: John (Elaine) Keip of Columbus; a sister: Ruth Koerner of Madison; and two sisters-in-law: Eileen Keip of Madison and Caryl Keip of Waunakee. Mick was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Bea, a son Chuck, a brother Ralph, a sister Phyllis, and a brother-in-law LeRoy Hansel.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, October 7, 2010 at BETHANY LUTHERAN CHURCH, 124 W. 10th Street in Kaukauna with Rev. Walter Steinbach officiating. Interment with full military honors will be in Kaukauna’s Union Cemetery. Friends may call at the church on Thursday morning from 10:00 AM until the time of the service.
