Carol Grace (Will) Hering, 81, died peacefully with family at her side Monday afternoon after living courageously with ALS for three years. She was born June 6, 1929 in Milwaukee.
She is survived by Lee, her husband of 60 years; her daughters and their husbands: Nan (John Johnson), Susan, Sandy (Donald Bamberger) and Karen (David Hammond); and her seven grandchildren: Sarah, Dan, Mady, Ben, Lauren, Leah and Charlie. She is also survived by her brother Roger Will. She has now joined her parents, Paul and Augusta, sister Joyce and granddaughter Andrea Hope in heaven.
Carol attended Valparaiso University and graduated from UW-Oshkosh before enjoying many years of teaching at Black Creek Elementary School. Devoted to her church and her family, her vibrant and caring spirit touched many lives. She was deeply loved by her family and a wide circle of cherished friends, near and far. Carol brought joy and beauty wherever she went.
Her family thanks the staff of Renaissance, Heritage Woods and ThedaCare Hospice for their excellent care and presence in our lives.
Her life and faith will be celebrated in a memorial service at Faith Lutheran Church Saturday, January 22, 11 a.m. Visitation, 9 – 11 a.m., will precede the service at the church. Carol has requested that memorials be given to the Milwaukee Chapter of the ALS Association or Harbor House in Appleton.
