William “Bill” Henry Von Holt, age 83 of Appleton, WI passed away at home on November 16, 2024. Bill was born to the late William and Eleanore (Mcfall) Von Holt on October 23, 1941 in Chicago, IL. After graduating from Hortonville High School, Bill joined the Marine Corps to defend our country. He had a few jobs throughout his life, but most of his time working was for the Gilbert Paper mill with 40 years of hard-working, dedicated labor. He married Karen Wheeler in August of 1965 in Shiocton, WI and together, they had two children. They were together until her passing in 2001. He later found love again with Mary VanLankvelt and her kids.
If anything could be said about Bill, it would be said that he was dedicated: dedicated to his work, dedicated to his country, dedicated to his football team, and especially dedicated to his family. Bill was the provider for Karen and his kids throughout his life and was, above all other things, a family man. He will also be remembered by all for his booming, boisterous voice and echoing laughter. Bill and Karen enjoyed taking trips to both Branson, Missouri for the various attractions and to the Sioux locks to watch the ships come in. During his retirement, Bill could often be found at various restaurants getting breakfast with his friends, “the boys”. He enjoyed football and would always cheer on the Packers whenever they were playing. More than anything, though, Bill loved his family and cherished every moment he spent with his kids, grandkids, and great-grandkids.
Bill will be deeply missed by his son, Tim (Jennifer); his fiancée, Mary; Mary’s kids, Jeff (Tracy) and Ryan (Toni); his son-in-law, Bob; his grandkids, Christopher, Scott (Madilyn), Erik, Jacob (Amy), Nick (Sam), and Aria; his great-grandkids, Cooper, Colt, Lennon, and Maddie; his sister, Marcia (Wayne); as well as many nieces, nephews, other extended relatives, and special friends.
Bill is preceded in death by his daughter, Tammy; Mary’s daughter, Michelle; his great-grandson, Louie; and his his sister, Margie (Bud).
A funeral visitation will be held from 9-11 AM on Thursday, November 21, 2024 at Wichmann Funeral Home, 537 N. Superior St, Appleton, WI 54911 with a funeral service and to follow at 11 AM. Bill will be laid to rest with Karen and Louie at Riverside Cemetery in Appleton, WI with a military honors service. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund will be established in Bill’s name.
