Beulah Irene Thomas, 86, of Appleton, passed away Saturday, January 16, 2010 at Fox River Assisted Living with her brother Bob and nieces, Ellen and Carolyn at her side. She was born August 26, 1923 in Antigo at home, the sixth child of the late Wenzel and Mabel (Jones) Mach.
Bea attended the 4th Ward Grade School, Junior and Senior High School in Antigo. In her freshman year she took lessons on the Hawaiian guitar. Bea was a member of the Equitable Reserve Association and The Security Benefit.
Beulah left Antigo in 1942 to move to Appleton. She worked at Zwicker Knitting Mill and Fox River Knitting Mill. Bea also worked for Kroger's in the meat department for 25 years. She lived in Racine and Cudahy for a short time. Bea enjoyed planting flowers, and doing needlework.
Bea is survived by a brother: Robert Mach, Appleton; two sisters-in-law: Margie Mach, Kaukauna and Dorothy Mach, Little Chute; nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and special friends: Butch and Betty Plach.
She was preceded in death by her son, Duane Powell on May 31, 2005, sisters: Florence (Richard) Pullman and Evelyn (Russell) Steinfeldt; brothers: Stanley Mach, George (Beatrice) Mach and Harry Mach and sister-in-law: Betty Mach
The memorial mass will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, January 21, 2010 at ST. THOMAS MORE CATHOLIC CHURCH, 1810 N. McDonald Street, Appleton. Father Gerald Falk will be officiating. Entombment will take place at Riverside Cemetery Mausoleum. The family will receive friends at the church on Thursday from 9:30 am until the time of mass. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established in her name.
We would like to thank Father Falk and the Sisters at St. Thomas More for their visits and spiritual care for Bea. Special thanks to Drs. Haine and McCormick, the Hospitalists of St. Elizabeth Hospital, nurses and aides on 2nd and 4th floor at St. Elizabeth and all the staff at St. Paul Elder Services Rehabilitation and Fox River Assisted Living for their help and wonderful care of Bea. Lastly, thank you to Affinity Hospice Care for your concern and compassion.
