Betty Hottenstine, age 82, passed away peacefully at her home on Friday, March 20, 2009. Betty was born near Mosinee on February 14, 1927, daughter of the late Louis and Verna (Cater) Simonis. Betty married Barry Hottenstine on June 7, 1947. Barry preceded her in death on July 5, 2004. Over the years, Betty was employed by a pharmaceutical company in Appleton, as a housekeeper at St. Elizabeth Hospital, and as a deli clerk at the Park 'N' Market on Appleton's south side. She also enjoyed the company of her dachshunds. All who knew Betty will remember what a great cook she was. Everyone looked forward to sharing her special recipes, including her famous pickles, tea rings, and others.
Betty is survived by her two children: Deborah (Mark) Evans and Todd (Brenda) Hottenstine, both of Appleton; six grandchildren: Eric (Staci) Evans of Appleton; Ryan (Laura) Evans of Rochester, Minnesota; Sarah Evans of Appleton; Brooke (Michael) Morrill of Little Chute; Jim (Jennifer) Hankwitz of Lodi; and Jennifer Hankwitz of Appleton; five great-grandchildren: Karissa and Hailey Evans, Conner and Brynn Morrill, and Braeden Hankwitz; four sisters: Dorothy Olds of Eau Claire; Margaret Koch of Wausau; Ellen (Bill) Gabler of Merrill; and Donna (Danny) Hintz of Mosinee; and a sister-in-law: Barbara Simonis of Mosinee. There are also many nieces, nephews, in-laws, other relatives, and friends. Betty was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Barry, brothers Billy Simonis, Elmer Simonis, and Hilbert Simonis; and brothers-in-law Orville Olds and Gordon Koch.
The funeral service for Betty will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, March 24, 2009 at the funeral home chapel, with Rev. Grace Cajiuat of First United Methodist Church officiating. Interment will follow at Highland Memorial Park. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday morning from 9:00 AM until the hour of the service.
