Bernice Betters

August 25, 1927 — March 28, 2011

Age 83, passed away peacefully in her sleep on March 28, 2011. Bernice was born in the town of Buchanan on August 25, 1927, daughter of the late William and Mary (Kraimer) Mischler. On June 19, 1948, she married Arthur Betters at St. Mary Catholic Church in Kaukauna; he preceded her in death in 2003. In addition to being a loving and caring mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Bernice also worked as the librarian at St. Mary's School in Kaukauna for many years. She will be remembered as a wonderful and caring neighbor and friend to many. She was a longtime and devoted member of St. Mary Catholic Church, and enjoyed sewing, gardening, feeding her birds, and doting on her great-grandchildren.

She is survived by three sons: Daniel (Monica) Betters of Menasha; David Betters of Kimberly; Tony Betters of Appleton and his fianc√© Ellen Wicker; five daughters: Kathleen Krahn of Kaukauna; Carolyn “Lyn” (Michael) Hackel of Combined Locks; Patricia Oates of Appleton; Terri Maas of Kaukauna and her special friend Dan Lemmers; Laura (Robert) Rolf of Kaukauna; twenty grandchildren: Sue (Phil) Sobiek, Christine (Tony) Wolf, and Heather (Nick) Griesbach, Amanda (Jason) Lamine, Emily (Jacob) Jones, Elizabeth (Adam) Van Nice, Brent Betters and his fianc√©e Maki, Michael Oates, Paul Oates, Kaitlin Oates, Scott (Kathy) Maas, Nicholas (Kim) Maas, Jonathon Betters. Amie (Tim) Kading, Brian Schuh and his fianc√©e Tricia, Brenda (Jamie) Hostettler, Shannon (Mike) Verhagen, Carmen (Duane) Pingel, Robyn (Eric) Munes, and Natasha Smits and her special friend Steve; there are also nineteen great-grandchildren with three more expected soon. Other survivors include many cousins, nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear friends.

Bernice is also survived by a sister-in-law: Barb Mischler; a former sister-in-law: Sandra Mischler; by Art's family and her longtime friends Pat Betters, Shirley Betters, Maurice (Ethel) Brockman, and Phyllis (Don) Craney; and by her many dear friends Betty Mereness, Erica Fuhrman, Hank and Mary Dreschler, Margaret Olson, Chris Kehoe, Emma Gloudemans, Bill Blenke, Randy and Tammy Hietpas, Norma and Lewis Fuhrmann, Carol Fox, Sr. Francine Goodman, and Mark Rohan. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Art in 2003, a son-in-law Robert Krahn, granddaughters Maria Krahn and Ann Frances Betters, siblings Norbert (Jane) Mischler, Richard (Gerd) Mischler, Donald (Rosemary) Mischler, Wilfred Mischler, and Peggy (Maurey) Skell; as well as by her good friend Jane Van Hout.

The funeral liturgy for Bernice will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday, April 1, 2011 at ST. KATHARINE DREXEL PARISH (St. Mary's Church), 119 W. 7th Street in Kaukauna with Fr. Jerry Pastors Interment will be in the parish cemetery. Friends may call directly at the church on Friday from 10:00 AM until the hour of the service. A memorial fund is being established.

The family would like to extend their gratitude to everyone from the Kaukauna Police Department as well as Kaukauna Fire and Rescue for the sensitive way you handled our mother's passing. We will be forever grateful for your kindness.

Dear Mom, Grandma, and Great-Grandma: You were the heart and soul of this family. We will miss you every day until we meet again. We know that you are happy to be reunited with the one true love of your life and with your other precious loved ones.
