Barbara Jean
Vestal
Oct 3, 1938 — Oct 30, 2026
Barbara Jean Vestal (Thompson), formerly of Eau Claire, Wisconsin, and most recently Kimberly, Wisconsin passed away peacefully on October 30, 2026, at the age of 88, with her beloved granddaughter by her side, holding her hand as she took her final breath.
Born on October 3, 1938, to Dorothy and Arthur Thompson, Barbara lived a life defined by unconditional love, kindness, compassion, and an unwavering devotion to her family.
Barbara is survived by her son, Randy Vestal (Shawn); her daughter, Tammy Ellis; and her many cherished grandchildren and great-grandchildren, each of whom held a special place in her heart.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Milas Vestal; her daughter, Hope Vestal, her sister, Sandra Mittlestadt; and her brother, Arthur Thompson (Dianne).
Throughout her life, Barbara was the heart of her family – a woman whose love was expressed not simply through words, but through a lifetime of selfless acts.
She lovingly raised her grandson, Darrin (DJ), from birth, providing him with the same unconditional love, guidance, and devotion she gave her own children. When her daughter Hope faced the challenges of multiple sclerosis, Barbara stood faithfully by her side as her caregiver, offering endless patience, strength, and comfort. She also lovingly cared for her aging mother alongside her sister Sandy, never hesitating to put the needs of those she loved before her own.
Caring for others was not simply something Barbara did, it was who she was.
Her generous spirit extended far beyond her family. Barbara was a devoted supporter of St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, the ASPCA, and numerous other charitable organizations. Her compassion for children, animals, and those in need reflected the beautiful heart she carried throughout her life.
During her golden years, Barbara was surrounded by the love of her granddaughter (the Papanikolas family) who relocated from Arizona to Wisconsin to help care for her. These years were filled with the comfort of family, treasured moments, and the reassurance that she was deeply loved.
In her final days, Barbara spoke of how much she loved all of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her love for them was immeasurable, and it remained one of the greatest joys of her life. She was overwhelmed with love and joy meeting her great great grandsons from Arizona. Jaxon Sauber (Jasmine), Christopher Boyett (Dylan), and Jeremy Lopez (Alyssa).
Barbara also shared an incredibly special bond with her assisted living caregivers, Jen, Hope, and Kayleigh. What began as caregiving grew into something far more meaningful – a genuine connection built on love, trust, laughter, and friendship. They meant the world to Barbara, and the love they had for her was equally heartfelt. Her family will forever be grateful for the kindness, dignity, and compassion they showed her.
Barbara will be remembered for her gentle spirit, her giving heart, her quiet strength, and the countless sacrifices she made for those she loved. She never sought recognition for all that she gave. For Barbara, loving and caring for her family was simply a way of life.
Her greatest legacy will not be measured in years, but in the lives she touched, the family she nurtured, and the unconditional love she leaves behind.
In accordance with Barbara’s wishes, cremation will take place, and no funeral service will be held.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in her name to one or more of the following. The ASPCA, St. Judes Children’s Hospital, the MS Foundation, the Lung Cancer Society, Autism Awareness, or any children’s hospital.
