Barbara J. Evenson

Barbara J. Evenson, age 89 of Appleton, WI completed the journey home to her Lord on May 11, 2026 following a lengthy illness. Barb was the daughter of Donald and Erma (Wirtz) Seaman born in Milwaukee, WI on May 1, 1937. She and George Evenson were united in marriage on May 1, 1971 at St. Joseph Church in Wauwatosa, WI.

Barb had a life-long thirst for learning. After graduation from the dental hygiene program at Marquette University, she had an early career in both private practice and public health, employed by Winnebago County in school health and later the Wisconsin State Division of Health as a dental health consultant. She made a career shift at her mid-life, returning to graduate school at U.W. Oshkosh for a degree in counselor education. Following graduation, she worked as a career counselor at Fox Valley Technical College until her early retirement in 1987, retiring along with her husband.

Barb was a faithful member of St. Bernard Church, serving as communion distributor for many years, helping immigrant families with learning English, and visiting parish members homebound and in nursing centers. She enjoyed being a part of several area prayer groups, including Marian Devotions of the Fox Cities and the Chapel of Divine Mercy.

Barb was an active reader with a special interest in her Catholic faith, holistic health, and current events. Playing piano and organ were her favorite pastimes.

Barb is preceded in death by her brothers, Ronald (infant), Donald Jr., and Thomas Seaman; her nephew, Todd Seaman; and her parents, Donald Sr. and Erma Seaman.

Barb is survived by her husband, George; her nephew and nieces, Scott (Nancy) Seaman; Mary Seaman, and Emily Seaman; her special friends, Kathleen and Suzanne; as well as many other extended relatives and dear friends.

A funeral visitation will be held for Barb from 10-11 AM on Friday, June 5, 2026 at Wichmann Funeral Home, 537 N. Superior St, Appleton, WI 54911 with a funeral service to follow at 11 AM. Barb will be laid to rest at St. Joseph Cemetery in Appleton, WI.

Barb’s family would like to extend a special thanks to her caregiver, Melissa, as well as her niece, Nancy for all of their care, compassion, and help through her times of need.
