Barbara Dygert Hagan, age 83 of Appleton, died at home on Wednesday, July 16, 2025, following a brief illness. Barb was born in Chicago on September 13, 1941, daughter of the late Edwin and Selma (Stromberg) Dygert. Barb was a high school graduate and also received a degree in marketing from Fox Valley Technical College.
Barb retired after twenty years from Fox Valley Technical College, where she was head of the Student Activities Department. She was extremely athletic and loved the water. She was an excellent swimmer and a precision diver. She also learned to SCUBA dive and was a member of the Fox Valley SCUBA Club. But wait – there’s more! She also mastered skiing, both on the water and on the snow. She spent time riding horses, reading, being outdoors and gardening, and loving on her cats. She When the chilly weather came, she left town and headed for Florida.
She was a friend to all she met, and was happy to host gatherings at her home, often with her neighborhood card club or dominoes group. Barb was a loving mother and grandmother who will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.
She is survived by her life partner: David Phibbs; three daughters: Carrie “Cookie” Serletic Williams (Jerry Williams), Dawn Steiner (Stuart Berger) and Sherrie Mayo; two inherited daughters: Deidre (Wayne) Kozlowski and Page (Kenneth) Sasiadek; her grandchildren are Stephanie Hagan and son Elliott, Grant Mayo, Christine Mayo, and Alexis Hagan; her inherited grandchildren are Charlotte, Jason, Sarah, Erik, and Chad.
She was preceded in death by her parents, previous husband Dick Butkiewicz, and David’s son Jonathan Phibbs.
Visitation for Barb will be held from 3:00 PM until 5:00 PM on July 30, 2025, at the Wichmann Funeral Home, located at 537 N. Superior Street in Appleton. Barb will be buried privately, at a later date.
