Ann passed into eternal rest on Saturday morning, June 12, 2010. She was born in Burlington, Wisconsin, on April 18, 1927, daughter of the late Elmer and Rose (McCarthy) Ebert. She attended elementary school in Waterford, Wisconsin and in 1941, the family moved to Whitewater, where she attended high school. In September of 1945, she married Herb “Dusty” Zabel in Whitewater; together the couple raised eight children there. Later, the family moved to Clintonville, and eventually Dusty and Ann retired to Rhinelander where they spent their summers, but wintered in Ocala, Florida. In 1998, they moved to Ocala. Failing health forced their return to Appleton in 2006, when they moved to The Heritage.
Ann is survived by eight children: Bill (Chris) Zabel of Atlanta, Georgia; Judy (Jim) Rausch of Arlington, Texas; Susan (Art) Holden of Kandern, Germany; Bob (Sue) Zabel of Appleton; Lana (Greg) Carman of Milwaukee; Barb (Doug) Stern of Dousman; Jim (Mary) Zabel of Cedarburg; and Meg (Bob Wall) Zabel of Appleton; sixteen grandchildren; twenty-one great-grandchildren; a sister: Doris Tenpenny of Fort Atkinson; as well as sisters and brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, many other relatives, and friends. Ann was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, three brothers, and four sisters.
A memorial service for Ann will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, June 19, 2010 at the Wichmann Funeral Home, with Pastor Rich Engle officiating. Inurnment will be in Summit Cemetery in Oconomowoc. Friends are invited to gather at the funeral home on Saturday morning after 10:30 AM. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Cherry Meadows Hospice are encouraged.
