Anita E. Vander Heyden

Anita Emma Vander Heyden, (nee Ehlke), age 99, died Friday, October 30, 2009, at Parkside Care Center in Little Chute, surrounded by the love and prayers of family and friends.

She was born May 18, 1910, in Appleton, Wisconsin, daughter of the late Bertha (nee Kielgas) and Otto C. Ehlke. Over the years, Anita gave of herself to many civic and church organizations as both an officer and a member. She retired as secretary of personnel at St. Elizabeth Hospital after 20 years of service on May 31, 1975. Upon retirement she began years of care giving, first for her husband, then various family members.

Survivors include 3 children: Rev. William F. Vander Heyden, Evanston, Illinois, Judith A. Vander Heyden, Kaukauna, and Mary (Bill) Nackers, Appleton. Two grandsons: Thomas (Kerry) Nackers, Hubertus, and Brian Nackers, Appleton. Two great-grandchildren: Taylor and Kendall Nackers; and one niece and two nephews. Anita was preceded in death by her loving husband Orville Francis Vander Heyden, one infant son, Thomas; two brothers: Rev. Roland Ehlke and Karl Ehlke. Anita will be sadly missed by many dear friends, especially Lois and Dick Johnson, Mary Kay Deering, and Cordell Bowers.

The funeral liturgy for Anita will be held at 4:30 PM on Tuesday, November 3, 2009 at ST. PAUL CATHOLIC CHURCH, 410 Wallace Street in Combined Locks, with Fr. William Vander Heyden and Fr. Jim Lucas officiating. Interment will be in St. John Cemetery, Menasha. Friends may call at the church on Tuesday afternoon from 3:00 PM until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, you may perform an act of kindness for others.

Anita's family would like to thank the staff at Parkside Care Center for their continuous efforts to provide for her comfort.
