Agnes Tatera, age 90, of Appleton, passed away on Monday, November 23, 2015 at Carolina Manor in Appleton. She was born on January 18, 1925 in the Town of Lyndon, to the late Anthony and Rose (Hudzinski) Szymanowski. Agnes grew up on a farm during the Great Depression as the youngest of eight siblings and without a father who died when she was only one year old. She married Harry Tatera at St. Mary Catholic Church in Lyndon Station on September 16, 1944 (while Harry was briefly stateside for ship repairs during WWII). After the war they started their family in the Wisconsin Dells area, where she lived almost all of her life. She was dedicated to her family her entire life, and was the most loving and unselfish person you could ever meet.
She was preceded in death by her husband Harry on June 23, 1988 and by all her siblings. Agnes was a member of St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Wisconsin Dells. She was employed for 27 years at Uptown Trading Post in the Dells.
Agnes is survived by her sons: James (Kaaren) Tatera of Madison, Indiana and Gerald (Marilyn) Tatera of Freedom, Wisconsin; grandchildren: Patrick (Elizabeth) Tatera, Monica Ouedraogo, and David (fiancé Alia) Tatera; Dr. Mindy (Brandon) Tatera, Jamie Lynn Tatera, Christie Tatera, and Ricky Tatera; step-grandchildren: Courtney (Nate) Bartlett and Brandon (Sarah) Sim; twelve great grandchildren; and sister-in-law Gloria Szymanowski of Milwaukee. She is further survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
The funeral liturgy for Agnes will be held at 11:30 am on Monday, November 30, 2015 at ST. PIUS X CATHOLIC CHURCH, 500 W. Marquette Street in Appleton. Fr. William Van Dynhoven will be officiating. Inurnment will take place at Calvary Cemetery in Wisconsin Dells on Wednesday, December 2, 2015 at 2:00 pm. The family will receive relatives and friends at the church on Monday from 10:30 am until the time of mass. The rosary service will take place at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, memorials are appreciated to St. Pius X Catholic Church or Wisconsin Dells Police Department “You are not alone program”.
