Adeline B. Straus, age 89, passed away Monday, August 31, 2009. She was born in Butternut, WI on October 6, 1919 to Andrew & Hildegard Ketterl, the youngest of 10 children. She attended Whitewater State Teachers College where she received a degree in Business Education. She taught school at Drummond and Wrightstown, WI. She obtained her Professional Masters at Laramie, WY. After several years of teaching at Kaukauna High School, she went on to teach for 25 years at Fox Valley Technical Institute. She married August W. Straus on August 1, 1939 and is survived by two sons: Milo (Sally), Olympia, WA; Don (Lois), Menasha, WI; daughter-in-Law, Kathy Straus, Evansville, IN. & 6 grandchildren: Kelly (Eric) Straus-Diedrick, Kaukauna; Korey (Victoria) Straus, Brooklyn Park, MN; Sara (Chris) King, Seattle, WA; Joshua (Jennifer) Straus, Evansville, IN; Jonathon (Carrie) Straus, Evansville, IN; Jodi (Carrie) Straus, Evansville, IN and great-grandchildren; Mason & Cecelia Diedrick; Kayla & Mykena Straus; Harmon King and Shayleigh Straus. She is survived by numerous nieces and nephews including James Gruber (MaryAnn) and great-nephew, Father Jim Lucas. Adeline was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, August W. Straus, son, Ronald J. Straus, brothers, George, Andrew and Theodore and their wives, sisters, Ann, Barbara, Helen, Caroline and Josephine and their husbands. A Mass of Christian Burial for Adeline will be held on Tuesday, September 8, 2009 at 2:00 PM at HOLY CROSS CATHOLIC CHURCH, 309 Desnoyer St., Kaukauna with Fr. Tom Pomeroy and Fr. Jim Lucas officiating. Family and friends may visit at the church from 12 noon until the time of the mass. Entombment will take place in Highland Memorial Park, Appleton. A memorial fund is being established in her name to benefit the American Diabetes Association.
Adeline was a wonderful Mom, Grandmother & Great-Grandmother and was not only a teacher to her students, but also taught her children and grandchildren the importance of living life to the fullest and the true meaning of “Family”.
