Yvonne "Bonnie" Briski

July 19, 1930 — October 5, 2013

Yvonne “Bonnie” Briski was born to eternal life on Saturday, October 5, 2013. After battling multiple health issues, she left as she lived, peacefully and humbly. Born Yvonne M. Couey July 19, 1930 to Ralph and Hazel Couey, she grew up in Milwaukee, WI with her brothers, Duane and Bob (Robert), and sister, Maxine, all deceased. Three years after Hazel's death, her father re-married Norma (Steffen) Couey who raised them as her own children and was in turn embraced as the mother she became to them; many of us knew her as “Granny”. Bonnie lost her Father to cancer when she was 16.

Bonnie attended La Follette grade school near her home on 11th street and graduated from Rufus King High School. After high school, she received secretarial and bookkeeping training. She married Theodore (Ted) Briski Sr. on February 16, 1957. After the birth of their oldest, she became a homemaker for several years raising their four children. She then worked for 13 years at St Eugene's Parish school in the office, where she formed many close friendships that continued throughout her life. Always joyful and optimistic, Bonnie touched the hearts of all who knew her with her boundless sense of humor and ready laugh. Though it could be said her life had many challenges, she never saw it as such: she always rose above and held tight to life's joys. Her loving warmth made her home the favored “hangout” for both family and friends.

She later became bookkeeper for her oldest son's trucking company; eventually retiring from St. Eugene's to work for Larry full time as the business grew. In addition she was “Nanny” to her first two grandchildren, as well as caring for several other children over the years. Always a natural nurturer, her built-in “grandma” sensibility embraced all the children in her life and endeared her to many.

Bonnie is survived by her children Larry (Sue), Ted, Jr. “Skip” (Debra), Jackie, and Mike (Teresa); her grandchildren Amy (Matt), Chris, Sidney, and Caleb; her sisters-in-law, Terry, Dolly, and Betty (Couey); her brother-in-law Phil; plus many nieces/nephews, other extended family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband Ted, Sr., her brothers Duane and Bob; her sister Maxine; her sister's-in-law Edith, Margaret, Chi-Chi, and Betty (Briski); and her brother's-in-law Gil, Paul, and Lee.
