Wayne Poole
Age 97, of Appleton, passed away on Saturday, August 31, 2002 at Theda Clark Hospital in Neenah. He was born in Harlan, Iowa on May 13, 1905 to Ralph and Mamie Belle (Wright) Poole. Wayne served in the Army in the South Pacific in WWII. Later he became a salesman, most prominently with Peter-Paul Candy Company and Rustoleum products.
Wayne was a giver, teacher, and a boy’s best friend. Through woodworking, music, photography, hiking, camping, tennis and other things, he created an orientation for healthful, productive lives for hundreds of boys. He was a scoutmaster of Evanston, IL troop 27 and served the longest of any in the Evanston council, and was awarded highest honor in scouting leadership, the “Silver Beaver” award.
Wayne is survived by his sister, Trudy Armstrong, nephews: John and Steve Armstrong, Jack and Jim Copeland, niece: Susan Arends. He is further survived by many great nieces and nephews and longtime friends.
Preceded in death by his parents and sisters: Dorothy Copeland and Helen Poole.
A Memorial Service will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, September 4, 2002 at 11:00 AM with Wade Hetrich officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service also at the funeral home. Interment will take place at Memorial Park Cemetery in Skokie, IL. Memorials may be directed to the Community Church of Appleton.
