Virginia Gordon Whitney passed away January 3, 2009 at Colony Oaks Care Center, Appleton, WI where she had been a resident for six years.

Mrs. Whitney was born August 12, 1915 in Boston, Massachusetts. She went to the Maine School of Commerce before beginning work at Commercial Finance in Bangor, Maine. On December 27, 1941 she married Roy Powell Whitney. The Whitneys came to Appleton when Dr. Whitney was appointed to the staff of the Institute of Paper Chemistry in 1947.

Mrs. Whitney was an early member of the Appleton Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and a volunteer for Meals on Wheels. She was a lifetime member of the Fox Valley Symphony League and received its BRAVO Award for outstanding service in 1990. She was also a member of Fine Arts Club, Century Club, and Riverview Country Club. Mrs. Whitney is remembered for wonderful parties for Institute students and for being a most gracious hostess for IPC functions.

Surviving Mrs. Whitney are her children, Patricia Whitney Brink, Seattle
WA, and Donald Gordon Whitney, South Burlington VT; grandchildren Laura and James Whitney also of South Burlington VT. She was preceded in death by
her husband Roy, son-in-law, Daniel Brink and daughter-in-law, Trudie Whitney.

There will be no local services. A family service and burial will be held in Milo, Maine. Memorials for Mrs. Whitney may be sent to Appleton Medical Center Volunteers or Fox Valley Symphony League.
