Ruth Steffensrud

May 6, 1924 — January 25, 2014

Ruth Steffensrud, 89, entered into the presence of God on Saturday, January 25, 2014 at Fox River Nursing and Rehab, which was her home for the past 13 years.
Ruth was born to Carl and Freida Zerbe in Milwaukee on May 6, 1924.

She graduated from Milwaukee West High School and later attended Central Bible Institute in Missouri where she met her future husband, Gunnar. They were married on May 31, 1951. After a brief time living in Montana and Oconomowoc, they moved back to Milwaukee. Milwaukee remained Ruth's home until after her husband passed away in 1992. She later moved to Appleton to be near her daughter, Jeanne, and son-in-law, Steve.

Ruth accepted Jesus as her Lord and Savior when she was young and served Him all her life. She believed strongly in the power of prayer and spent many hours interceding for her family, including her grandkids, Josh and Jessica, of whom she was especially proud. She prayed for her home church in Milwaukee where she attended most of her life as well as for her church in Kimberly, Fox Valley Christian Fellowship, where her son-in-law is the pastor. She had a special place in her heart for the country of India and the missionaries who served there so she prayed diligently for them as well.

Ruth is survived by her daughter, Jeanne (Steve) Nickel and her two grandchildren, Josh and Jessica. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and two brothers, Hugo and Reuben.

A memorial service for Ruth will be held at 1:30 PM on Tuesday, January 28 at Fox Valley Christian Fellowship (1200 W. Kimberly Ave., Kimberly) with Rev. Steve Nickel officiating. Visitation will be held from noon until the time of service. Ruth will be laid to rest at Wisconsin Memorial Park in Milwaukee. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund is being established.

The family would like to express their deep appreciation to the staff of Fox River Nursing and Rehab for their excellent, compassionate care of Ruth during her time there.

Ruth's sweet smile and gentle manner were a blessing to many and she will be missed by all who knew her
