Rose Schindler, 78, of Appleton, passed away on Saturday, February 5, 2011 at Oakridge Gardens Nursing Center, after a courageous year long battle with a brain tumor. She was born on May 12, 1932 in Appleton, the daughter of the late Joseph and Mary (Liebhauser) Schindler. Rose attended Sacred Heart Catholic Grade School in Appleton and then attended St. Mary High School in Menasha. She was employed by Outagamie County in the Finance Department for many years until her retirement in 1995. After her retirement, her love of gardening led her to take a part-time job at Memorial Florist. Rose was employed there until the time of her illness. She was a caretaker for her mom for many years until her death in 1979 and her brother until his death in 2006. Rose was a lifelong member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Appleton. She was a very active member over the years, belonging to many church organizations and helping out in numerous ways. Rose was an avid baker and was always baking for church events and for her family. Rose's greatest joy in life came from her nieces and nephews and especially her great-nieces and nephews. She spent a great deal of time with them. They will all miss her dearly.

Rose is survived by her brother-in-law: Joseph Schmalz, Darboy; nephews: Joe (Alicia) Schmalz, Brillion and David Schmalz, Darboy; nieces: Debbie (Bob Buhler) Schmalz-Buhler, Sherwood and Mary (Tom) Schwister, Appleton; great-nieces and nephews: Kyle and Sam Schmalz; Sierra and Savannah Buhler; Haley and Aaron Schwister. She is further survived by several cousins and many friends. Rose will also be greatly missed by her cat, Nicole.

She was preceded in death by her brothers: Carl, Jack and Tom Schindler and her sister, Betty Schmalz.

The funeral liturgy for Rose will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, February 10, 2011 at SACRED HEART CATHOLIC CHURCH, 222 E. Fremont Street, Appleton. Father David Kelly O.F.M. will be officiating. Interment will take place at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Appleton. A time of visitation will be held on Wednesday at the funeral home from 4:00 pm until a prayer service at 7:00 pm and again at the church from 10:00 am until the time of mass. A memorial fund has been established in her name.
