Phoebe Ann (Heenan) Kempen

September 16, 1935 — April 8, 2014

Phoebe Ann Kempen, age 78, of Appleton, passed away on Tuesday, April 8, 2014, at Brewster Village, with her family by her side. She was born on September 16, 1935, in Appleton to the late James and Milda (Gast) Heenan. Phoebe raised twelve children. She was well known for her strong faith and was a lifelong member of St. Mary Catholic Church. Phoebe was a CNA, a small business owner for several years, and spent her later years doing home care for disabled adults. She enjoyed gardening, taking care of her pets, camping, the time she spent with her family and friends, and especially the time spent with her grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great granddaughter, and her beloved dogs.

Survivors include her children, Diane Shaw; Mary “Mitz” Huebner; Ken (Diane) Kempen; Jeff Kempen; Paul (Debbie) Kempen; Leo (Kristi) Kempen; Tim (Denise) Kempen; Tom (Sherry) Kempen; Amy (Al) Prudom; Ted (Diane) Kempen; Katie (Mike) Meulemans; her 25 grandchildren; her 20 great grandchildren; and her great great granddaughter; her siblings, Jerry (Ginny) Heenan and Tom (Ruth) Heenan; her sister-in-law, Beverly Heenan; and her brother-in-law, Darrell Crawford. She was preceded in death by her son, Andrew Kempen; her siblings, John Heenan; James Heenan, Jr.; Mary Crawford; Faith (Delmar) Demand; and Charles Heenan.

The Funeral Liturgy will be at NOON on Saturday, April 12, 2014, at ST. MARY CATHOLIC CHURCH, 312 South State Street, Appleton, with Fr. Jim Leary, O.F.M. Cap. officiating. Friends may call at the Wichmann Funeral Home, Appleton, on Friday from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and directly at the church on Saturday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of services. Interment will be in St. Mary Catholic Church Cemetery. A memorial has been established in her name. The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to the staff at Brewster Village for their loving care, especially those in Harmony House.
