Mildred Mary Grode

GRODE, MILDRED MARY (nee WEST)

Mildred M. Grode, of Kaukauna, age 95 years, died Sunday, December 25, 2005 at St. Paul Home. She was born December 3, 1910 in Kaukauna, a daughter of the late Peter and Sarah (McCormick) West. Mildred married Edmund Grode on April 14, 1931 in Kaukauna. She was a former member of Holy Cross Catholic Church and the Ladies of Holy Cross. Mildred volunteered many years for Kaukauna Hospital Auxiliary. She enjoyed reading, crocheting, politics, and was an avid writer of letters to family and friends. Mildred was strong in her faith and loved spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Mildred is survived by her sons: Ken (Carol) Grode of Kaukauna, Brian (Marian) Grode of Wrightstown and Gene Peter Grode of San Clemente, CA; her daughter: Sherry Wynboom of Appleton; daughter-in-law: Rosie Grode of Freedom; 19 grandchildren; 30 great grandchildren and a great great granddaughter. She is further survived by a sister-in-law, Gloria Grode of Little Chute, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband Edmund, daughter Marilyn Grode, son Wayne Grode, 2 brothers: Cyril and Lyle West; 6 sisters: Nellie Berendsen, Arlene VanHandel, Leila Remmel, Florence Lambie, Margaret Holum and Mary Kerscher.

The funeral liturgy will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, December 29, 2005 at HOLY CROSS CATHOLIC CHURCH, 309 Desnoyer St., Kaukauna with Fr. Jack Mullarkey officiating. Interment will take place at the parish cemetery. Friends may call at the Church on Thursday from 9:00 am until the time of mass. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Mildred’s name.

Special thanks to Dr. Gregory Johnson, the hospice staff at ThedaCare at Home and the staff at St. Paul Villa and Nursing Home. Thank you to everyone who loved Mildred and was good to her. With the deepest thanks of all to her son Ken, for going above and beyond, he has our deepest gratitude.
