Marie Florence Crosby

Marie Florence (Roen) Crosby, 89, passed away peacefully at Unity Hospice, Jack and Ingrid Meng Center in Ledgeview Thursday afternoon, April 28, 2011.

Marie was born on August 22, 1921 to Captain and Mrs. Magnar Roen. She graduated from Lincoln High School in 1939, and was employed at the Mirro Company until her marriage to Claude “Bing” Crosby on June 21, 1945. He had just returned from the South Pacific after spending six-war patrols on the submarine Guavina, which she had christened in 1943. He preceded her in death on January 11, 1993.

They lived in the Appleton area from 1947 until 1960, when they were transferred to Dayton, Ohio. They returned to Appleton in 1971.

Marie was a long-time member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Appleton Women's Club, Clio Book Club, Delphian Book Club, Wisconsin Maritime Museum, Wives and Widows of Submarine Veterans, WWII, Appleton Medical Center Auxiliary and Sons of Norway.

Her family, church, friends, neighbors and home brought her much happiness and she enjoyed being a mom and homemaker. Her dear grandchildren were a “very special joy to their grandparents.”

Marie is survived by her daughter Karen Marie and husband Steve Neuman, grandchildren Kristin Marie and Steven Jr, her sister-in-law, Geraldine Roen, a special niece Mrs. Jean (David) Dunker and their children and cousins.

Marie was preceded in death by her husband, parents, brother and a son Leigh.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, May 2, 2011at TRINITY LUTHERAN CHURCH (209 S. Allen St. Appleton) at 11:00 AM with Pastor Kurt Kovanen officiating. The interment will be in the Evergreen Cemetery in Manitowoc. A time of visitation will be held on Monday, May 2, 2011 from 9:30 AM until the time of the service at the Church.

In lieu of flowers please feel free to make memorials to the charity of your choice, Unity Hospice, Trinity Church or Manitowoc Maritime Museum.
