Age 97, passed away on Thursday, October 31, 2002 at Parkside Care Center. She was born on February 28, 1905 in Kaukauna the daughter of the late Peter and Sarah (McCormick) West, the second oldest of ten children. She moved to the above address in 1911. Margaret attended Holy Cross Grade School, and Outagamie County Teacher’s School in Kaukauna and taught in rural schools, in Michigan, and in Green Bay for four years under the Dominican nuns. After marrying Edward Holum, in Lansing, Michigan, she traveled to various cities and states wherever his job took them. Margaret worked part and full time for J. C. Penny in Appleton. Wisconsin was always their permanent address and they voted here. Margaret and Edward bought a home in Fond du Lac and Edward worked for Hutters Construction Company. Margaret’s father passed away in Kaukauna in 1961, and Margaret and Edward moved to Kaukauna where Margaret’s mother was living. Margaret belonged to the Clerk’s Union in several cities, and the Kaukauna Hospital Auxiliary for over three years; the hospital where her husband, father, and mother passed away. She was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church in Kaukauna as well as the Christian Mothers of the parish. She had no children of her own, but had many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great great nieces and nephews and tried to be good to them all. Margaret is also survived by her two sisters Mary Kerscher of Kaukauna, and Mildred Grode of Freedom. She was preceded in death by her 4 sisters and three brothers: Florence Lambie, Ellen West, Leila Remmel, Arlene Van Handel, Lyle and Cyril West, a brother in infancy, and many friends.
A memorial service for Margaret will be conducted on Saturday, November 9, 2002 at 11:00 AM at the Fargo Funeral Home in Kaukauna with the Rev. Jack Mullarkey officiating. Interment will take place at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery next to her husband. Visitation will take place at the funeral home on Saturday from 10:00 AM until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established.
