Marcella Margaret Abendroth Band, of Menasha, passed away on May 22, 2011, while with family outside enjoying the beautiful Wisconsin sunshine and the sounds of birds, on the grounds of Prairie Home Assisted Living in Menasha.

She was born Marcella Margaret Belongia in Coleman, Wisconsin, on November 5, 1916, the daughter of Margaret (LaPlante) and Napoleon Belongia, both deceased. On July 3, 1937, she married Roy John Abendroth at St. Patrick's Church in Menasha, WI. They shared 13 happy years together, and after his death on February 8, 1951, she raised their five children. She was blessed with 11 grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren.

She is survived by her five children: son, Thomas (Jan) Abendroth of Appleton; daughter, Susan Abendroth Banton of Orlando, FL; son, Peter (Nancy) Abendroth of Massanutten, VA; daughter, Andrea Abendroth Hummel of Menasha; and son, Joseph (Barb) Abendroth of Menasha. Also surviving are her grandchildren: Kelly (Michael) Richard, J. Andrew (Nan) Banton, Rick (Karrie) Abendroth, Lisa Abendroth and her husband, Eric Grattan, Marta (David) Mossburg, Hans (Kim) Hummel, Bridget (Bob) Heavner, Brook Banton, Katie (Chris) Murray, Scott (Natalie) Abendroth, and Angie Abendroth; and great-grandchildren: Katelyn and Nicholas Richard, Alexis Kohlbeck; Colin Abendroth, Meghan Heavner, Nicholas and Erin Banton; Abbey, Lee and Sidney Murray; Hank and Charlie Mossburg; and Alissa Abendroth.

She is also survived by two step-daughters: Edna Mae DeBruin of Downers Grove, IL (daughter of Clark Wiese), and Mary Catherine Bell of Bell, Ottawa, Ont. Canada (daughter of C. Merrick Band). She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

She was preceded in death by her husbands; Clark Wiese and C. Merrick
Band; and was the last survivor of many brothers and sisters.

She was currently a member of St. Bernard's Parish in Appleton, having also been a member of Corpus Christi Parish in Destin, FL, and St. Maurice Church in Ottawa, Ont., Canada. While in Destin, Marcy was an active Member of the choir and the St. Vincent de Paul Society of Corpus Christi Parish.

A memorial in Marcella's name may be directed to the local chapter of the St. Vincent de Paul Society.

The funeral mass will be at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 31, 2011 at ST. BERNARD CATHOLIC CHURCH, 1617 W. Pine St., Appleton, with Fr. Dennis Ryan officiating. Friends will be received at the church on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the mass. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Appleton.

The family would like to express sincere gratitude to the staff at Affinity Medical, especially Dr. James Haine who was such a caring and competent physician. Also, we are grateful for the wonderful caregivers at Prairie Home Assisted Living, and, most recently, Heartland Hospice, for all the gentle care and thoughtful concern given to Mother.
