Lucille Irene Hegner

Our loving mother, Lucille Irene Hegner, age 92, passed away with her family by her side on Thursday, May 14, 2015. She was born on January 30, 1923 to the late Edna and Floyd Brightman, and she was raised on the family farm in the Town of Clayton. Lucille married Merlin Hegner on December 12, 1942, and they spent 65 years together before he passed away in 2007. Lucille and Merlin moved to Lakewood, Wisconsin during the 1970's where they owned and operated a gas station and a tavern. She enjoyed playing cards, spending time in her garden with flowers and plants, golfing, and birdwatching. Lucille was a very loving, compassionate woman who loved her family dearly. Being close to her family was very important to her, especially when she was able to live with her daughter Kay, son-in-law Kutz, and granddaughter Sarah for the last three years. She treasured the time that she was able to spend with her entire family, and they will miss her dearly.

Lucille is survived by her children: Gene (Mary Lou) Hegner, Robert (special friend Ellen Igl) Hegner, Ken (Bonnie) Hegner, Anna (special friend Abel Romo) Hegner, Kay (Eugene “Kutz”) Hemauer; sister Betty Olson; daughter-in-law Marilyn Hegner; sisters-in-law Marcy Brightman and Margie Hegner; 35 grandchildren, 49 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Merlin Hegner; son Charles Hegner; daughter-in-law Kathleen Hegner; brothers Willis and Bob Brightman; and sisters Mildred Van Horn and Mae Klemp.

The funeral service for Lucille will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 17, 2015 at SHEPHERD OF THE HILLS LUTHERAN CHURCH, N1615 Meadowview Drive, Greenville with Rev. Nate Reichle officiating. A time of visitation will be held at the church from 1:00 p.m. until the time of the funeral. Lucille will be laid to rest in the Clayton Cemetery.
