Kirsten Marie Bergholz

August 28, 1944 — February 5, 2001

Age 56, passed away at St. Paul Home, Kaukauna on February 5, 2001 after a relatively brief illness. The cause of death was advanced pancreatic cancer. She was born on August 28, 1944 in Prairie County, Montana, where her parents, Rev. & Mrs. Hogey Bergholz, were then living, and baptized on October 8th of that year. Later the family moved to the Fox Valley area where she attended St. Paul's Lutheran School in Appleton for her grade school years and was confirmed in that parish on March 30, 1958. Kirsten went on to attend Fox Valley Lutheran High School, graduating in 1962, then the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh, earning her B.A. from there in 1966, and finally, the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where she received a M.A. in German in 1968.

Since 1975 Kirsten taught at her alma mater, Fox Valley Lutheran, primarily serving as its German language instructor. On June 22, 1998 she married Dr. Thomas Ziebell, also a Fox Valley Lutheran instructor, in a ceremony at Munich, Germany. She was a faithful member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Winneconne.

Kirsten was preceded in death by her father in 1997. She is survived by her husband, her mother, Mrs. Viola Bergholz of Appleton, a cousin, Linda Bentley of Green Bay, her aunt and uncle, Mr. & Mrs. Gordon Bentley of Green Bay, the three daughters of her late uncle, Dr. Wayne Luebke, and numerous other friends, co-workers, and students – both present and former.

Funeral services for Kirsten will be held at 1:30 PM on Thursday, February 8, 2001 at ST. PAUL EV. LUTHERAN CHURCH, 302 North Morrison Street in Appleton with Rev. Mark Albrecht and Rev. John Covach officiating. Interment will be in Community Lutheran Cemetery, Freedom. Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday (TODAY) from 5 – 8 PM and again at the church on Thursday from 12:30 PM until the hour of the service.

The family especially wishes to thank Dr. Thomas Winek, Dr. John Swanson, the entire fourth floor nursing staff of Appleton Medical Center, and the hospice staff of St. Paul's Home for their compassionate care of Kirsten during her illness. Also, in lieu of flowers, the family requests that any memorials be given in her memory to either Fox Valley Lutheran High School, St Paul's Lutheran Church in Winneconne, St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Appleton, or the American Cancer Society
