Age 77, died with family at her side in Appleton on Monday, October 1, 2001. She was born to the late George and Hilda (Kamps) Mader on July 10, 1924. Katherine married Sylvester Gregorius, who precedes her in death, in Appleton, on September 16, 1946. They enjoyed 47 years of marriage. Katherine was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and proudly served as a member of the Third Order of St. Francis of Assisi. She was also a proud member of the Gold Star Mothers. Katherine volunteered in the gift shop at St. Elizabeth Hospital. Other volunteer work includes: knitting hats for newborns at local hospitals, crocheting hats, mittens, scarves, and afghans for the homeless, and veterans in King, Wisconsin, and other volunteering activities. Katherine is survived by 3 daughters, Ellen Gregorius, Appleton; Mary Jo (Jay) Hetherington, Appleton; Christine Gregorius, Appleton; 3 grandchildren, Tina Gregorius and special friend Jake, Seattle; Jenny Hetherington and special friend Joe, Appleton; Mike Hetherington, Appleton; 2 brothers, George (Wilma) Mader, Appleton; Thomas (Faye) Mader, Waupaca; 2 sisters, Mary Francis Leopold, Appleton; Joan (Pete) Peterson, Appleton; brother-in-law Earl Gregorius, Menasha; sister-in-law, Alice Blick, San Diego; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Katherine is preceded in death by her son Michael and daughter Patty. The funeral liturgy will be on Thursday, October 4, at 4:00 p.m., at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 410 West Lawrence Street, Appleton, with Fr. David Belonger officiating. Friends may call at the church from 2:00 p.m. until the time of service. Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery. The family extends a special thank you to the staff, nurses, and administration of Peabody Manor for their special care. A memorial fund is being established.
