Joe Van Stippen

Joe “Scoot” Van Stippen, age 66, passed away on Saturday evening, March 27, 2010 at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Appleton. Joe was born in Appleton on May 1, 1943, son of the late Joseph and Mary (Hottenstine) Van Stippen. Scoot was employed for a time by Fox River Paper, and also worked for the City of Appleton Sanitation Department. Scoot had a great love for music and spent hours making tapes and cd's. He also enjoyed following the Chicago Cubs, Chicago Bears, NASCAR, fishing, playing bingo, the company of his dog Snooky, and golf. In 2007, Scoot shot a hole in one at the New London Country Club.

He is survived by his wife of twenty-two years: Sheela (nee Kuse) Van Stippen of Appleton; three children: Lisa (Tom) Schommer of Appleton and their daughters Nicole, Melanie, and Michelle; Joe (Mary) Van Stippen of Menasha and their children Amanda, Ryne, and Aaron; and Gweneth (Kyle) Moran of Appleton and baby Jacob who is due to arrive in June; his former wife: Mary Van Stippen of Greenville; two sisters: Pam (Terry) Timm of Neenah and Dianne (Tim) Christenson of Grand Chute; two sisters-in-law: Belinda (Ron) Hogan of Shawano and Debbie Kuse of Neenah; a brother-in-law: David (Terry) Kuse of Appleton, and a dear family friend: Shirley Herrick of Grand Chute; and his mother-in-law: Gweneth Kuse of Appleton. Joe is also survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother-in-law Danny Kuse and his father-in-law Ervin “Jun” Kuse.

A memorial service for Scoot will be held at 3:30 PM on Wednesday, March 31, 2010 at the Wichmann Funeral Home, Tri County Chapel with Rev. Dr. Thomas Fritz officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday afternoon from 2:00 PM until the time of the service, and again following the service until 5:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established.
