Age 75, died Friday evening, March 16, 2001, following a short illness. She was born October 23, 1925, to the late Clyde and Elsie Stead, in Oshkosh and had been an Appleton resident for 60 years. Janice and her husband, Bill, owned Chef Bill’s, now Mark’s East Side, for 20 years. She enjoyed oil painting, crossword puzzles and collecting angels. She was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church. Survivors include her husband, William G. Dougherty, to whom she had been married for 54 years; two daughters and sons-in-law, Judy and Rick Simon, Appleton; Linda and Tom Kuchenbecker, Plover; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Dave Dougherty and his fiancée, Carol Tuorto, Seminole, FL; Mark and Lori Dougherty, Appleton; seven grandchildren, Dawn (Bill) Ebert, Scott Simon, Curt (Jenny) Simon, Nicole (Richard) Klemme, Sarah Kuchenbecker, Will and Riley Dougherty; a great grandson, Connor Simon; a brother Arden Stead, Town of Menasha; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Doris Geyer, Appleton; Marlene and Phil Kottke, Winneconne. She was preceded in death by two brothers and a sister. The funeral liturgy for Janice will be held at 11:30 am, Tuesday, March 20, 2001, at ST PIUS X CATHOLIC CHURCH, 500 W. Marquette Street, with Father Donald Zuleger officiating. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Park, Neenah. Friends may call at the church on Tuesday from 9:30 am until the time of the mass. Memorial funds have been established for the Kidney Foundation and the American Cancer Society.
