Janice Dengel Nieland

October 3, 1944 — January 1, 2014

Janice Dengel Nieland, age 69 passed away January 1, 2014, at her home with her family and friends by her side after a courageous battle with cancer. Jan was born October 3, 1944 in Two Rivers, Wisconsin, to Alfred and Dolores (Andrustyk) LeClair. She graduated from Appleton West High School in 1963, and in 1965 she married Jack Dengel with whom she had three children. In 1991 she married Marvin Nieland, who preceded her in death in 2010. She loved her children and grandchildren more than anything. Her flower gardens were her passion, and she worked for years as a floral designer. She would spend countless hours in her yard – she could make a stick grow! Jan treasured her time with family and friends, having an endless supply of kids over the years with everyone calling her Mom. Always willing to take time to listen, to offer her words of wisdom or help anyone in need, she touched so many. At this time of year, she was known for making her famous peanut butter balls, but her specialty was her “ho-made” pies. She was the original prankster, always pulling pranks or telling stories – she had that gift of gab! Jan was a constant caregiver and an inspiration to anybody who knew her, with her huge heart and caring ways, always putting others first! She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

Survivors include three children: Kris (Chris) Treml, Kim Mahlendorf (Mike Schmidt), and Michael J. Dengel; three sisters: Audrey Thyssen of Hortonville, Beverly (Buck) Komp of Appleton, and Marilyn (Sig) Signorelli of New York; two sisters-in-law: Beverly Harke of Kimberly and Deloris Maas of Appleton. Her grandchildren are Taylor Euhardy (Kirstin), Baylie Treml, Alex Huss, Brandon Huss, Sydney Dengel Bergner, and Tristan Brinkman. There are also four step-grandchildren: Tim (Chelsea) Kuhnke, Adam (Alicia) Kuhnke, Austin Kuhnke, and Steven Kuhnke; and a step-great-granddaughter: Jayden. She also leaves behind her special family Bill and Kris Hauser, her Little Angel, Gracie Hicks, and her four four-legged babies. Jan was preceded in death by her parents, and her husbands Jack Dengel and Marvin Nieland.

A memorial service for Jan will be held at 6:00 PM on Monday, January 6, 2014 at Wichmann Funeral Home, Tri County Chapel, 1592 Oneida Street in Menasha with Chaplain Jim Frank officiating.
